Bora Bora: island of French Polynesia in the paradisiac beaches Bora-Bora is one of the Leeward Islands of the French Polynesia. It is situated in the South Pacific, in 260 kilometres of Tahiti and the capital is Papeete. His real name is Pora Pora who means " the born first one ". This term comes because the island forms from a volcano taken out of some waters there is thirteen million years. The island, before its discovery by the sailor Roggeveen in 1722, was occupied by the Polynesians who called him " Vava' u ". James Cook lands there in 1769 and gives to him current sound of Bora Bora. In 1842, the island passes under French protectorate. During the Second World War, between 1942 and 1946, the American troops install a military base there. Numerous vestiges as batteries antiaircraft, bunker and the landing runway remain always today.
